VP, General Counsel

About the Role

VP, General Counsel serving as Premier America's legal advisor, offering strategic guidance to the board and executive leadership on legal, regulatory, governance, contracts, and litigation matters for a $3.5 billion state-chartered credit union. Location: Chatsworth, CA (19867 Prairie Street, Chatsworth, CA 91311).

What You'll Do

• Serve as primary legal advisor on banking, regulatory, and enforcement matters
• Provide counsel on lending, deposits, payments, digital banking, and third-party risk
• Support board matters on financial services and regulatory issues
• Develop and execute strategies for regulatory examinations and potential enforcement actions
• Manage disputes, regulatory proceedings, and prelitigation strategy; direct outside counsel strategy and budget
• Negotiate and approve complex contracts, policies, and procedures
• Advise on product development, vendor relationships, and compliant growth
• Lead legal support for M&A transactions and business combinations
• Represent the credit union in industry associations and regulatory forums
• Build and lead the in-house legal function

Requirements

• Minimum ten years progressively responsible legal experience focusing on banking law and regulatory matters
• Demonstrated senior legal advisor experience with complex, high-risk matters
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university (required)
• Juris Doctorate from an ABA Accredited Law School
• Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior leaders
• Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
• Thorough understanding of banking regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements

Pay & Benefits

• Base salary $200k-$250k/year
