Urban Forester

About the role

Open competitive recruitment with the City of Burbank. Under direction, manages the City's urban forestry program by monitoring performance, production, and quality of work; serves as liaison between the City and community on urban forestry matters; and provides administrative support to the assigned supervisor.

What you'll do

• Review, negotiate, and administer maintenance and service contracts; use a tree inventory data collection and analysis software system
• Review, recommend, and approve tree removal permits; develop the annual tree trimming, removal, and planting schedule
• Investigate, analyze, and resolve public complaints regarding tree location or condition
• Prepare capital improvement and Urban Forest Master Plan projects using GIS mapping software
• Manage tree claims and may represent the City in legal proceedings
• Prepare and present detailed written reports and oral presentations, including to City Council

Requirements

• Knowledge of landscape architecture, urban design, urban forestry, green infrastructure, and irrigation design principles
• Skill in tree maintenance, public relations, and computer software
• Ability to read blueprints, manage/negotiate contracts, and learn GIS and other technologies
• Graduation from an accredited college/university with coursework in park planning, landscape architecture, or horticulture, or equivalent combination of education/experience

Pay & benefits

$89,733.54-$117,999.70/year. Civil Service Classification BMA, FLSA Exempt.
