Engineering Aide

About the Role

Under direct supervision, performs entry-level para-professional engineering work involving basic engineering knowledge and skills.

What You'll Do

• Plot cross sections, profiles, and contours
• Check permit and connection applications against departmental drawings and records
• Verify existing improvements from maps and compute changes to lot lines and assessments
• Compile data for plans, specifications, and reports
• Perform calculations using algebra and trigonometry
• Prepare maps, layouts, plans, and drawings from sketches or notes; trace drawings and maps
• Draw graphs and charts to illustrate statistical data
• Research public records using engineering terminology and drafting knowledge

Requirements

• Knowledge of drafting instruments, engineering surveying/drafting terminology, and algebra/trigonometry
• Ability to perform accurate calculations and read/interpret maps and engineering drawings
• Ability to sketch, trace, delineate, and letter

Education/Training

Completion of two years' college coursework (60 semester units) emphasizing engineering or a related subject, including drafting, algebra, and trigonometry with a grade C or better. A valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
