Pipefitter Apprentice

About the Role

Under supervision, performs increasingly skilled work assisting journey-level workers in the construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of the City of Burbank's water distribution system, while completing a formal apprentice training program.

What You'll Do

• Assist in cutting, fitting, laying, repairing, cleaning, and flushing water mains and services
• Assist in installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of the water system, including valves and hydrants
• Assist in repair of meters and detector checks — disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, replacing worn parts, reassembling, and testing
• Learn to operate trucks, backhoes, and other heavy construction equipment, plus hand and power tools
• Complete after-hours classes and on-the-job training to progress toward independent, skilled work
• Work under emergency conditions when called, per the City/Burbank City Employees' Association MOU
• Drive on City business

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent
• Valid California Class "C" driver's license at appointment; Class "A" license within one year
• Grade 1 (T1) Water Treatment Operator and Grade 1 (D1) Water Distribution Operator certificates within 18 months; Grade 2 (D2) Water Distribution Operator certificate prior to completing the apprenticeship
• Crane certification may be required based on assignment

Pay

$79,299.74–$109,799.56/year
