About the Role
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is hiring a Mechanical Analysis Engineer based in Woodland Hills, CA, supporting senior mechanical engineers in the design of military avionics, including inertial navigation and measurement systems and mission computers for the Sentinel program. This position is 100% on-site (not eligible for remote work) and may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. Standard schedule is a 9/80 (a nine-hour day Monday-Thursday, with every other Friday off).
What You'll Do
- Serve as technical individual contributor for the Analysis Engineering Team
- Perform structural analysis (static, dynamics, stability, damage tolerance) of metallic structures, mechanical and electromechanical systems, and equipment, by hand and using approved automated methods
- Build Finite Element Models (FEMs) using CAD geometry, meshing, and running solutions, including large-scale models
- Review drawings and requirements for materials and structures; perform analyses to demonstrate compliance
- Document structural analysis methods and propose new methods as needed; compute margins
- Document static/dynamic test plans and procedure requirements
- Participate and present in internal and external (customer) design reviews
- Support material review board (MRB) and nonconformance activities
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree + 12 years of experience, Master's + 10 years, or PhD + 8 years in STEM or related technical fields
- Ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. Government Security clearance
- Experience developing FEA models and conducting analyses in ANSYS
- Experience in 3 or more of: system/sub-system FEA modeling/analysis, piece parts, static, modal, buckling, dynamic (sine, random, acoustic), thermal strength/distortion, bolted joint analyses
- Ability to verify simulation results by hand-calcs or comparison with heritage programs
- Ability to work on site in Woodland Hills, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- Thermal analysis and CCA analysis experience
- Prior experience with 3D CAD software
- Experience in test planning, test support, and data reduction
- Experience supporting mechanical analysis of circuit card design
- Demonstrated creativity solving difficult problems; self-motivated team player
- Ability to work under pressure on short turnaround requests
Schedule
Full-time, 100% on-site in Woodland Hills, CA, on a 9/80 schedule. Travel: 10% of the time.
Pay & Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $161,000.00 - $241,400.00 (base pay; final offer depends on experience, education, skills, and market conditions).
