About the Role
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Safety Engineer to work with the Specialty Engineering Team in Woodland Hills, CA. This is a fully onsite position working a 9/80 schedule, contingent on program award, for someone looking to grow in Systems Safety Engineering.
What You'll Do
- Apply safety engineering principles per MIL-STD-882 and software safety engineering per the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH)
- Support development and certification of systems and software to DO-178/DO-254 standards
- Prepare System Safety Engineering analysis and documents per MIL-STD-882E, including PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, Bent Pin Analyses, Fault Tree Analyses, and Software System Safety Analyses
- Identify system safety issues, propose solutions, and ensure mitigation
- Develop, review, update, and approve System Safety Artifacts and Requirements
- Document hazards using a closed-loop Hazard Tracking System
- Communicate project status to the CAM and IPT Lead
Requirements
- Bachelor's in STEM + 8 years, Master's + 6 years, or PhD + 4 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated ability applying system safety engineering per MIL-STD-882 (PHAs, hazard analyses, fault tree analyses, software system safety analyses, safety assessment reports)
- Experience using DO-178, DO-254, or JSSSEH for design development
- Ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures
- Understanding of requirements development, system/software architecture, and software code implementation, test, verification, and validation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- U.S. Citizenship; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with DOORS, Cameo, PLM systems, PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, JIRA, Confluence
- Expertise applying Military systems safety standards (MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C)
- Experience with Agile and Model Based Systems Engineering
- Experience generating or reviewing FMECA/FMEA
- Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance
Schedule
Full-time, onsite in Woodland Hills, CA, on a 9/80 schedule. Travel: 10% of the time.
Pay & Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00 (base pay; final offer depends on experience, education, skills, and market conditions). Employees may also be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company-paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
