About the Role
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems' Engineering and Sciences (E&S) organization is hiring a Principal/Senior Principal Hardware/Firmware CAM in Woodland Hills, CA. The role serves dual functions: Hardware CAM for the EGI-M program, and Mechanical Engineering Lead/Individual Contributor for avionics hardware across EGI-M and other programs.
What You'll Do
CAM responsibilities (EGI-M hardware scope):
- Serve as Cost Account Manager for hardware scope including chassis, PCB hardware, digital circuits, and associated mechanical hardware
- Plan, budget, and manage cost/schedule baseline for hardware engineering tasks
- Establish and maintain the Earned Value Management (EVM) baseline; analyze variances and execute recovery plans
- Define, collect, and report program metrics to the Program Manager, Chief Engineer, System Architect, and customer
- Identify, track, and mitigate Risks and Opportunities
- Coordinate staffing needs with functional managers; lead team meetings
Mechanical engineering responsibilities (EGI-M and other programs):
- Develop mechanical/aerospace products (aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles), with a primary focus on inertial navigation and measurement systems
- Own or lead mechanical design of chassis, structural components, electronics enclosures, and support hardware
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and MBD drawings in Solidworks, including GD&T
- Select materials and define manufacturing processes suitable for aerospace environments
- Perform or guide structural, stress, and dynamic analysis of aerospace hardware
- Support the full product lifecycle: requirements, design, fabrication, integration, qualification, production transition, and sustainment
- Lead small multi-disciplinary design teams and mentor junior engineers
Requirements
Principal level: Bachelor's in STEM + 5 years, Master's + 3 years, or PhD + 1 year.
Senior Principal level: Bachelor's in STEM + 8 years, Master's + 6 years, or PhD + 4 years.
Both levels:
- Experience in hardware and/or mechanical engineering development, integration, and test (avionics, embedded hardware, aerospace structures/enclosures)
- Experience with hardware requirements definition through production transition
- Experience supporting or executing CAM responsibilities (cost, schedule, performance tracking)
- U.S. Citizenship; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance; ability to work on site full-time
Preferred Qualifications
- CAM certification and/or significant CAM experience
- Experience developing cost/schedule estimates for hardware/firmware on DoD or commercial avionics programs
- Experience with Solidworks/CAD, GD&T, and materials selection
- Experience performing structural/thermal analysis using NX Motion or ANSYS
- Experience with DO-254 safety-critical hardware, FPGA/SoC/ASIC environments
- Familiarity with IMUs, inertial navigation systems, and navigation processing
- Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance
Schedule
Full-time, on site in Woodland Hills, CA. Travel: 10% of the time.

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00 (Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00 for higher-graded fills).
