Overview

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) clinic recruitment, training, publicity, operations, data collection, and quality control. They review tax returns for accuracy, communicate with VITA Coordinators, directly supervise Lead Supervisors (typically 3–4), and co-supervise student assistants in the VITA Office.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervises assigned sites: Lead Supervisors, tax preparers, and student assistants; ensures working equipment, supplies, and current IRS materials
• Maintains communication with community partners (libraries, community centers, YMCA)
• Pre-tax season: assists in training volunteer tax preparers and supervisors
• Confirms student identity and Form 13615 completion; assigns cohorts, schedules, and materials
• Reviews student documentation to assign final grades
• Addresses tax issues and tax code rejections with taxpayers
• Runs weekly reports in VITA TaxSlayer Pro for community partners and tax authorities, including for grant purposes
• Serves as CSU5 liaison, reporting to the VITA Program Director

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge, Specialized Skills & Abilities

• Excellent oral, written, and client service skills; able to work with low-income clients from diverse backgrounds
• Able to manage multiple tasks under pressure with minimum supervision
• Bilingual language skills a plus
• Proficiency in MS Office, TaxSlayer Pro, Qualtrics, Acuity, and Box
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
• At least two tax return seasons of supervisory experience in a volunteer income tax clinic
• Experience serving low-income communities required

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

• Employed through The University Corporation (TUC)
• Anticipated hiring range: $21.23–$26.06/hour
• Part-time, 20 hours per week
