Northrop Grumman Mission Systems in Woodland Hills, CA is seeking a Materials and Process Engineer at the Principal (Level 3) or Senior Principal (Level 4) grade. This position is contingent upon clearance. Full-time on-site.
What You'll Get To Do
- Support definition of engineering requirements for parts, materials, processes, and manufacturing technologies
- Qualify new materials, parts, and processes; manage test and audit programs for supplier qualification
- Support engineering design reviews and participate in failure analyses for metallic parts and processes
- Perform analyses to characterize performance and determine causes of tool, material, or process failures
- Coordinate and support lab activities (metallography, hardness, tensile, NDT/NDI)
- Support creation and revision of material/process specifications and work instructions
- Support investigations of non-conformances and supplier deviations; draft corrective action recommendations
- Frequent interaction with manufacturing floors, supplier facilities, and testing laboratories
Basic Qualifications
Principal (Level 3): BS in STEM (preferred Materials Science) + 5 years OR MS + 3 years OR PhD + 1 year Senior Principal (Level 4): BS + 8 years OR MS + 6 years OR PhD + 4 years
- Aerospace/defense manufacturing experience; knowledge of metallurgy, heat treatment, corrosion/fatigue
- Hands-on metallographic sample prep and basic lab techniques
- 2+ years experience with machining, forging, plating/coating, welding/brazing
- Active US Government Secret clearance; full-time on-site in Woodland Hills, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Top Secret clearance
- Master's/PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, or metallurgical engineering
- Experience with additive manufacturing, composite manufacturing, EB welding, or friction stir welding
Primary Salary Range: $103,600-$155,400/year Senior Principal Salary Range: $129,300-$193,900/year
