About the Role
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Environmental Test Engineer T3 to join the team in Woodland Hills, CA, supporting environmental test and qualification activities for complex hardware and systems in a disciplined, safety-focused lab environment, contributing to the company's enterprise-wide digital transformation through Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps, and Agile practices.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute Environmental Test Plans and Procedures for dynamic and climatic tests (vibration, shock, temperature, humidity, altitude)
- Perform environmental qualification and verification/validation testing at unit and subsystem levels under senior engineer direction
- Identify and mitigate test-related technical and schedule risks
- Support design of fixtures, harnesses, and ancillary equipment for environmental testing
- Set up and operate environmental test equipment (chambers, shakers, data acquisition systems), ensuring conformance to approved procedures and safety requirements
- Support technicians with test setup, troubleshooting, and execution
- Capture and analyze test data, perform basic data reduction, and assist in preparing test reports
- Interface with systems, design, manufacturing, and test engineering to clarify test requirements and verify results
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Master's with 3+ years, or equivalent experience with environmental test and qualification (vibration, thermal, shock, humidity, or similar)
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
- Ability to work onsite in Woodland Hills, CA
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MIL-STD-810 (810G/810H) environmental testing and qualification
- Experience with Vibration Research (VR) control software and ObserVIEW data analysis software
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-202, RTCA DO-160, and related aerospace test standards
- Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation (accelerometers, thermocouples)
- Experience with Thermotron 8800 or similar environmental chamber controllers
- Foundational knowledge of sine and random vibration testing
- Self-directed, organized, and able to manage multiple test tasks with moderate oversight
Schedule
Full-time, onsite in Woodland Hills, CA. Travel: 10% of the time. Occasional extended hours or weekends may be needed for critical test or program milestones.
