About the Role
The City of Burbank is hiring a Communications Operator – Lateral to answer emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, maintain contact with field units, and dispatch law enforcement and other resources through the Burbank Police Department Communications Center.
What You'll Do
- Receive calls and dispatch/record law enforcement and other units responding to emergencies
- Maintain continuous contact with field units during shift assignments
- Operate the 911 telephone system and computer terminal to enter, modify, and retrieve data
- Maintain logs of information received and transmitted; prepare reports and summaries
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent, plus one year of recent full-time experience in customer service, clerical work, or emergency dispatch/radio communications
- Typing speed of 40 net words per minute
- POST-certified Public Safety Dispatch Basic Course Certificate within one year of appointment
- Basic POST certificate must be attached to the application prior to September 4, 2026
Pay & Incentives
$68,687.06–$94,686.02/year, plus POST pay (up to 5%) once eligible. Lateral hires qualify for a $10,000 signing bonus ($5,000 at hire, $5,000 after probation).
