WDI Special Effects Designer Intern, Glendale, Spring 2027

About the Role

Walt Disney Imagineering is looking for a Special Effects Designer intern to assist with mock-up, design, production, installation, and testing of special effects for theme park attractions. This internship runs approximately January 2027 – June 2027 in Glendale, CA.

What You'll Do

• Assist the project team in scope development from concept through close-out
• Prepare documentation to establish FX scope on projects
• Collaborate across teams to meet internal/external requirements; support field installation
• Assist with maintenance/operations training and post-turnover support
• Assist the Special Effects lead in concept and design of effects supporting the show

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of special effects installed at Disney theme park attractions
• General knowledge of related technical fields (optics, mechanics, materials processes) and their application to special effects
• SolidWorks knowledge
• Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, earning a BA or BS in the Arts, Engineering, or related field
• At least 18 years old with unrestricted work authorization

Preferred

• Disney theme park special effects experience or theatrical training
• Industrial design, manufacturing, operations, and maintenance background with special effects/projection system design experience

Schedule & Logistics

• Must be fully available for the duration of the internship
• Must provide own housing and reliable transportation in Glendale, CA

Pay & Benefits

• $26.50/hr (undergraduate) or $27.50/hr (graduate)
