Thermal Structural Engineer

About the role

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Thermal Structural Engineer (Level 3 or 4) located in Woodland Hills, CA, part of the Advanced Weapon Systems business unit in Northridge. This position requires full-time on-site work. Relocation assistance may be available.

Clearance: Secret clearance required (Clearance Required for Start: No — must be able to obtain and maintain).

What you'll do

• Design, analyze, test, and validate thermal solutions for missile subsystems throughout the product life cycle
• Develop system-level and sub-assembly thermal models, including circuit-card assemblies down to individual component junctions
• Conduct steady-state and transient thermal simulations
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams; support Technical Reviews (PDR, CDR)
• Execute hand-calculation checks to validate computational thermal models
• Design and specify thermal environmental test plans
• Compile, document, and present analysis results to internal peers and external customers
• Serve as technical liaison with suppliers and customers
• Mentor team members
• May include occasional mass property analysis, timeline analysis, and detailed trade studies

Requirements

Level 3 (Principal):

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or related field + 5 years of aerospace/defense thermal engineering experience; or MS + 3 years
• Proficiency with FLUENT, FEMAP, SINDA, or equivalent thermal-analysis software
• Hands-on experience with thermal-vacuum chambers, hot-fire rigs, high-temperature ovens, thermocouples, RTDs, IR cameras
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance

Level 4 (Sr. Principal):

• BS + 8 years; or MS + 6 years in same field
• Same technical requirements as Level 3

Preferred:

• Current DoD Secret clearance
• SINDA proficiency; MINIVER or aero heating codes experience
• Missile Weight and Balance Certification; AWBS experience

Pay & benefits

• Level 3: $114,000–$171,000/yr
• Level 4: $142,200–$213,400/yr
• Eligible for overtime, shift differential, and annual discretionary bonus
