Urban Forester

About the Role

City of Burbank — Open Competitive Recruitment. The Urban Forester manages the City's urban forestry program, monitoring performance, production, and quality of work while serving as a liaison between the City and community on urban forestry matters.

What You'll Do

• Review, negotiate, and administer maintenance and service contracts
• Utilize tree inventory data collection and GIS mapping software
• Review, recommend, and approve tree removal permits
• Develop annual tree trimming, removal, and planting activities per the Urban Forest Master Plan
• Investigate and resolve public complaints regarding trees
• Prepare capital improvement projects and Urban Forest Master Plan initiatives
• Manage tree claims; represent the City at legal proceedings and City Council
• Work with contractors and volunteer groups; oversee projects
• Inspect landscape and forestry areas throughout the City; initiate work orders
• May supervise the forestry crew in the absence of the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director

Requirements

• Degree in park planning, landscape architecture, horticulture, urban forestry, or related field, with 4 years of professional experience (or equivalent combination)
• ISA Certified Arborist at time of appointment
• ISA TRAQ within 3 years of appointment
• Valid California Class C driver's license
• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather; weekends, holidays, and after hours as needed

Desirable Qualifications

• California Class A driver's license
• Master's degree in park management, landscape architecture, or public administration

Schedule & Pay

Full-time. Salary range: $89,733.54–$117,999.70/yr. Oral interview tentatively scheduled: Week of November 30, 2026.
