Staff Software Engineer - USD Authoring

About the Role

At Walt Disney Animation Studios, engineers in the Production Technology department develop and implement new algorithms to solve unique and challenging problems for animated content, partnering closely with artists, production and technology leadership, technical directors, and other engineers across Walt Disney Studios.

Projects Include

• Designing and implementing core infrastructure to manage shot, environment, and asset definitions and structures
• Building new APIs for artist-facing and data management tools
• Solving technical obstacles encountered by artists
• Extending and improving core libraries used for end-user tool creation
• Creating new user interfaces and tools for artists and technical directors
• Integrating new external DCCs into the pipeline
• Writing tools and plugins for story development
• Building artist dashboards for task management and collaboration

Requirements

• Strong experience with C++ and Python
• Strong experience with USD (Universal Scene Description)
• Strong experience with Qt for desktop development
• 7+ years designing and developing interactive tools, with 3+ years in senior technical roles
• Extensive experience designing APIs from scratch and extending existing frameworks
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and guide cross-functional engineering teams
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience

$155,700–$208,700/yr
