About the Role
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an experienced Sr. Principal Aeronautical Engineer Level 4 at our Advanced Weapons Business Unit in Woodland Hills, CA. This role is onsite (9/80 schedule — hybrid and remote not allowed). A Government Secret clearance is required to start.
What You'll Do
- Design primary and secondary missile structures, parts and assemblies: 3D CAD modeling, 2D drawing preparation/review/revision/release, materials selection, trade studies
- Employ GD&T and Model Based Engineering (MBE) methods in support of Digital Transformation
- Communicate with suppliers and customers to exchange technical information
- Coordinate with supply chain on design changes, cost reductions, and process improvements
- Collaborate with manufacturing on design/process improvements and fixture requirements
- Work with procurement, production, logistics, and configuration management on product documentation
- Hands-on troubleshooting, inspection, and assembly of parts/subsystems for prototyping, production, and test
- Perform tolerance stack up analysis and document results
- Collaborate with analysis teams on mass properties, structural, thermal, and materials/processes reports
- Create and deliver engineering briefings for design reviews
- Mentor less experienced engineers and develop team best practices
- Maintain design history files; track and resolve nonconformances (NCs)
Basic Qualifications
- BS in a STEM discipline + 8 years experience; or MS + 6 years; or PhD + 4 years
- Experience resolving NCs, creating drawings per ANSI Y14.5 (GD&T), and generating tolerance stack up analysis
- Experience with packaging of electronic assemblies and design for manufacturing/assembly (DFMA)
- Experience with primary and secondary air vehicle parts/components and assemblies
- Knowledge of environmental testing and hardware performance validation
- Active Government Secret Clearance; ability to obtain SAP access
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- Proficient in Creo and Teamcenter (PDM)
- DoD manufacturing and test/evaluation support experience
- Scrum/Agile/Kanban experience
- MIL-STD-810 design experience
Pay & Benefits
$142,200–$213,400/yr. Eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonus. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, and PTO.
