Electrical Line Mechanic

About the Role

City of Glendale utility position (Open & Promotional Examination). Performs skilled journey-level work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's electrical transmission and distribution system.

What You'll Do

• Construct, maintain, and repair the electrical transmission and distribution system (stringing wires, setting poles, hanging transformers, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, capacitors)
• Connect, disconnect, repair, and replace electrical services to customer facilities
• Work on energized 4kV and 12kV distribution circuits
• Install test metering equipment and maintain overhead and underground street lighting
• Construct and maintain underground duct lines, vaults, pole risers, and outdoor switching stations
• Read and interpret electrical plans and maps
• Locate trouble in primary and secondary lines; clear short circuits
• Drive line trucks, digger/derricks, and other City vehicles to job sites
• Assist the crew supervisor in overseeing and training apprentices

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent: Required
• Completed Electrical Line Mechanic Apprenticeship Program (or equivalent): Required
• 600-hour Electrical Technician/Electrical Distribution Mechanic Trainee program with climbing certification: Required
• Valid California Class C driver's license
• Valid California Class A driver's license required before probation ends (City provides training during probation)

• Oral Interview (100% weight)
• Background check including Livescan fingerprinting
