Communications Operator

About the Role

The City of Burbank is hiring a Communications Operator for the Burbank Police Department (BPD) Communications Center. Under general supervision, this role answers emergency (911) and non-emergency phone lines, maintains contact with law enforcement personnel and other City units in the field, and dispatches appropriate units or equipment in response to calls.

What You'll Do

• Serve as an Operator in the BPD Communications Center on a shift basis; receive, dispatch, and record calls for field response
• Maintain contact with units throughout shift to coordinate needed assistance
• Maintain a continuous record of mobile unit status
• Operate the emergency (911) telephone system and computer terminal to enter, modify, and retrieve data
• Maintain logs and prepare reports/summaries of Communications Center activity
• May drive on City business

Requirements

• Knowledge of public safety communications work, effective customer service techniques
• Skill operating modern computers and related software; sound independent judgment
• Ability to communicate effectively, think clearly and act quickly in emergencies
• Ability to work rotating shifts

Pay & Testing

• POST pay eligible: Intermediate 3%, Advanced 4%, Supervisory 5% (up to 5% total)
• Candidates must complete the department application and the Frontline National written exam via NationalTestingNetwork.com
• Salary: $68,687.06–$94,686.02/year
