About the Role
The City of Burbank is hiring a Communications Operator - Lateral for the Burbank Police Department (BPD) Communications Center, answering emergency (911) and non-emergency calls, dispatching units, and maintaining contact with field personnel. What You'll Do
- Answers 911 and non-emergency lines; dispatches law enforcement and other units to emergencies
- Maintains continuous contact with field units and tracks unit status
- Operates the 911 telephone system and CAD/computer terminal to enter, modify, and retrieve data
- Maintains logs and prepares reports of Communications Center activity
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent
- 1 year of recent full-time experience in customer service, clerical work, or emergency dispatch/radio communications
- Ability to type 40 net words per minute
- POST-certified Public Safety Dispatch Basic Course Certificate within one year of appointment
Pay & Benefits
- $10,000 lateral hiring incentive ($5,000 upon hire, $5,000 upon completing probation)
- POST pay: up to 5% additional based on certificate level
- Basic POST certificate must be attached to application before August 7, 2026
