About the Role
Open & Promotional Examination — six-month probationary period. Under general direction, this position assists in City-wide budget development and administration while performing a variety of associate-level professional, administrative, and technical duties.
What You'll Do
- Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards.
- Provides technical assistance to Departments in the formulation of budgets; monitors budgets for various City Departments; acts as budget liaison and primary contact for departments on budget and accounting matters.
- Performs budget projections and variance analysis; conducts fiscal analyses; reviews and assists in preparing the annual adopted budget, the City's Capital Improvement Project (CIP) budget, and related documents.
- Analyzes changing services and impacts upon fees and charges.
- Assists with development, review, and analysis of budgeted revenue estimates and fund sheets.
- Participates in review and analysis of departmental budget estimates and development of the preliminary and final City budget.
- Prepares financial analyses, forecasts, and reports using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, PeopleSoft, and other software.
- Instructs personnel and members of the public on the City's Budget and fiscal policies/procedures.
- Assists in presenting budget information to the City Council.
- May drive on City business as needed.
- Assists in reviewing and developing the city-wide cost allocation plan and other rate studies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field — OR an Associate's degree in Business plus three years of increasingly responsible professional budget, accounting, or related administrative experience.
- Valid Class C California driver's license.
- Knowledge of budgetary processes and procedures, governmental accounting principles, and government financing/budgetary analysis.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in a municipal or other government agency.
- Experience preparing an annual budget across multiple funding sources and expense categories.
Pay & Benefits
$5,472.58–$7,155.33/month. Full-time, non-exempt.
