Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is a global organization of engineers, product developers, designers, technologists, and data scientists — all working to build and advance the technological backbone for Disney's media business globally.
Content Platforms & Operations drives the worldwide distribution and monetization of Disney's linear networks and theatrical content, including media supply chain and storage, network transmission, media localization, and more. The Rights & Accounting fleet oversees products enabling TWDC to monetize content including rights and avails management, content sales, content accounting, and talent payments.
About the Role
The Senior Software Engineer plays a critical role in the development, quality, and continuous improvement of Disney Content Platform's Rights Management systems, contributing across the full software development lifecycle. The role combines software engineering and quality engineering responsibilities — creating new applications, enhancing existing systems, developing automated testing frameworks, and troubleshooting production solutions. This position mentors junior engineers and drives engineering best practices.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, maintain, and support enterprise-scale Rights Management applications
- Lead the implementation of complex features, technical initiatives, and software enhancements
- Design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks and test automation solutions
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application defects, test failures, and production issues
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define requirements and develop technical solutions
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, code reviews, and guidance on engineering standards
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering
- Strong SQL expertise (database objects, stored procedures, query optimization, data modeling)
- Proficient in Java and JVM languages with hands-on Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring Integration experience
- Solid full software development lifecycle experience (CI, unit/integration testing, code reviews, documentation)
- Experience designing, building, and integrating APIs
- Knowledge of OAuth, authentication, authorization, and access management
- Practical AWS experience (S3, RDS, messaging, VPC)
Preferred Qualifications
- Data integration concepts and workflows
- Event-driven architecture (EDA) and pub/sub messaging (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SNS)
- Application health monitoring and performance tuning
- Agile methodology experience
- Experience with: AWS, Kafka, Apache Airflow, Databricks, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, serverless (AWS Lambda), AI-assisted dev tools (Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot)
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical/Electronics, or comparable field.
Pay & Benefits
$141,900–$181,200/yr (Los Angeles). Bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided, plus full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
