LVN II – Ophthalmology (On-Call, Days)

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician, provides nursing care within the legal scope of practice and established standards of care.

Representative Duties

• Performs patient care functions within scope of competency, following physician orders and established protocols
• Assists medical personnel with special procedures, minor surgical procedures, and diagnostic exams
• Assesses and monitors patient condition, notifying the physician/health care team as needed
• Prepares and administers medications as directed by physician order
• Maintains equipment/supplies and applies infection-control protocols
• Documents patient information, assessment, and nursing procedures; maintains confidentiality

Patient Care Procedures

• Explains exams/procedures to patients and provides self-care instruction
• Administers first aid, dressings, catheterization, irrigations, and enemas as ordered
• Initiates emergency procedures including basic CPR
• Takes and records vital signs; obtains specimens; performs venipuncture and finger sticks
• Performs routine diagnostic tests, skin tests, and vision screening
• Assists as a member of the surgical team
