The Technical Manager – Capital Projects is responsible for on-site coordination, integration, and oversight of capital projects at Universal Studios Hollywood (USH). This role serves as a key liaison between Global Attraction Programs (GAP), Technical Services, site operations, and external partners to ensure projects are executed efficiently and in alignment with approved scope, schedule, and budget. This position is focused on driving day-to-day execution, facilitating communication across teams, resolving issues in the field, and providing clear, consistent project reporting to remote stakeholders. The Technical Manager also provides on-site technical leadership, enabling informed decision-making with vendors and partners to support timely and effective project delivery.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Execution Coordinate and support on-site execution of multiple capital projects, including rides, shows, and infrastructure scopes Facilitate daily/weekly coordination across project teams, site operations, maintenance, and vendors Identify, escalate, and help resolve site-related issues impacting scope, schedule, or cost Support implementation of project plans, ensuring alignment with site constraints and operational needs

Liaison & Stakeholder Integration Act as the primary on-site liaison between USH, GAP, Technical Services, Legal, Sourcing, and external partners Ensure alignment between project teams and park operations, maintenance, and safety stakeholders Coordinate site access, logistics, installation sequencing, and operational impacts Support cross-functional communication and decision-making to maintain project momentum

Technical Leadership & Field Decision-Making Serve as the on-site technical lead for assigned projects, supporting the review of engineering analyses, technical submittals, design packages, and installation approaches Provide on-site technical judgment and decision-making to address field conditions, vendor questions, and installation challenges, escalating to USH, GAP, and/or Engineering & Safety leadership for complex or out-of-tolerance issues Translate operational and maintenance needs into clear technical requirements and support alignment with design intent Ensure technical coordination across disciplines to support constructability, installation, and integration

Compliance, Testing & Commissioning Ensure all project work complies with applicable local regulations (e.g., LA DBS, DOSH), industry standards (e.g., ASTM F24), and internal Universal Destinations & Experiences engineering specifications Plan, manage, and participate in testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities, including verifying that systems meet safety, reliability, maintainability, and operational requirements Track and coordinate resolution of field issues identified during installation and commissioning

Project Reporting & Controls Develop and maintain clear, consistent project status reporting (schedule, cost, risks, key milestones) Provide regular updates to leadership and remote stakeholders Track and communicate risks, issues, and mitigation plans in a timely manner Support maintenance of project schedules and budgets, ensuring transparency and accountability

Vendor & Field Coordination Drive vendors, contractors, and internal trades to ensure work is progressing in alignment with project plans Monitor site activities and provide visibility into vendor performance and execution progress Support review and coordination of RFIs, submittals, and field changes to ensure proper alignment and documentation

Safety & Compliance Ensure all on-site activities are executed in accordance with applicable safety standards, site procedures, and regulatory requirements Partner with Safety and Operations teams to support safe execution of all project work
