Amazon Leo for Government (ALG) within Amazon Leo is developing secure, high-performance satellite communications technologies that support U.S. National and International security and defense.

This role requires a U.S. Citizen and is based in our Northridge, CA site. Due to the sensitive nature of the ALG projects, onsite work is required five days a week.

What you'll do

• Lead multiple teams (manager of managers) of firmware, embedded systems and services software engineers
• Manage and develop employees, including hiring, retention, performance management, mentoring and capability/skill development
• Work with peer teams and customers to design suitable software systems and interfaces to fulfill government customer use cases
• Collaborate with peer teams to integrate various system elements, both hardware and software
• Own the roadmap and mission for software and work with customers to refine requirements, understand constraints, hire & grow your team, and iteratively deliver value
• Design, build out, and maintain foundational software that extends Amazon Leo capabilities to US Government customers such as NASA, DoD, other National Security customers, and International Government customers
• Own developing and delivering software for mission critical space safety and sustainability applications which will automatically coordinate with external systems and organizations rapidly, reliably, and at scale

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 10+ years of software development experience
• 5+ years of engineering team management experience
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
• 10+ years of embedded software development experience with proven expertise in mission-critical systems development, specifically satellite or ground based communication/networking systems

Preferred qualifications

• Experience partnering with product and program management teams
• Experience in Networking/Wireless Communication Systems or RF engineering
• Experience leading teams in aerospace or other safety critical industry
• Experience establishing metrics for measurement of engineering and operational excellence
