We are seeking a Senior Prototyping Engineer to join our Prototyping and Integration (PI) Team. In this role, you will serve as the machine shop's principal technical authority on advanced prototype manufacturing.

What you'll do

• Own the most complex, highest-risk aerospace prototype builds end-to-end on multi-axis mills, lathes, and mill-turn equipment
• Define the lab's advanced machining strategy — CAM approaches, fixturing philosophy, and process sequencing
• Partner with design engineering early in the design cycle to drive design-for-manufacturability
• Set machining quality and throughput standards across the shop and lead continuous improvement initiatives
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to machinists and prototyping engineers
• Make independent technical judgment calls on ambiguous, first-of-their-kind parts
• Troubleshoot complex quality issues and drive corrective actions to root cause

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent
• 10+ years machine shop experience operating complex CNC equipment machining precision aerospace, defense, or high-reliability hardware
• Expert-level knowledge of HyperMILL, ESPRIT, or equivalent CAM systems, including multi-axis (5-axis and mill-turn) programming
• Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
• 4+ years overseeing continuous improvement initiatives
• Must be able to visually inspect and distinguish fine detail in precision optical/mechanical components

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with coatings, heat treating, and other finishing processes
• Expert experience using Siemens NX or other CAD systems
• Demonstrated success driving design-for-manufacturability with design engineering
