Patient Care Technician

About the Role

Patient Care Technician (PCT) working as part of the dialysis health care team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.

What You'll Do

Patient Care:

• Welcome assigned patients and inquire as to their wellbeing since their last treatment
• Evaluate vascular access, perform vascular access cannulation, and administer heparin as delegated by state law
• Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight
• Initiate and monitor dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders
• Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed
• Calculate and enter individual patients' dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration goal and treatment time
• Report any significant change in patient condition to the registered nurse or supervisor

Record Keeping:

• Enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application accurately and timely
• Complete and document ongoing participation in CQI activities
• Collect, label, and store lab samples according to laboratory specifications

Infection Control:

• Follow infection control policies and procedures
• Support staff and patient adherence to infection control practices

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Must meet CMS-approved state and/or national certification requirements within the required timeline
• All appropriate state licensure, education, and training (if any) required
• Must successfully complete the organization dialysis training program and CPR certification
• Position involves frequent heavy lifting, prolonged periods of standing, and assisting with patient ambulation

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility
