About the Role
CSUN's National Center on Deafness seeks a Computer-Aided Transcriber to provide communication access services to Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing students and other individuals with disabilities.
What You'll Do
- Deliver real-time communication access in classrooms and at campus events using computer-aided speech-to-print transcription
- Combine speed typing, automatic speech recognition, and text condensing strategies
- Assist consumers by voicing their entered questions or comments
- Capture all spoken content while omitting false starts, repetitions, and other non-meaningful speech
Requirements
- Certification in an applicable computer-aided transcribing system
- Familiarity with academic higher education
- Three months of experience providing computer-aided transcribing services, preferably in higher education
- Minimum 60 WPM typing speed; strong English grammar and editing skills
Schedule
Intermittent hours, variable schedule. Temporary renewable appointment (July–June), subject to annual renewal. On-campus in Northridge — not remote.
Pay
Hiring rate $42.47/hour (classification range $19.37–$194.60/hour)
