Getting your first batch of mead through fermentation and into aging is a big milestone. But once the yeast has done its job, the fun and some of the more interesting decisions really begin. Meadmaking 201 is designed as the next step for anyone who has taken our 101 class or already has a batch of mead under their belt. We’ll cover the practical side of finishing and refining your mead, including secondary additions such as fruit or spices, along with techniques for getting the most out of each. We’ll also cover stabilization, carbonation, bottling, and the considerations that go into preparing your mead for the bottle. This is where you move beyond following a recipe and start learning how to shape the mead itself. We’ll cover the techniques and a few of the tricks that can make the difference between a good batch and a great one.
