Westside Council Hears Copper Theft Unit Disbanded

Officer Chris Baker of LAPD told the Westside Neighborhood Council that the department's dedicated copper wire theft unit has been disbanded.

Baker made the disclosure in response to a question from the board.

Copper wire thefts continue in the area, Baker said.

A suspect was recently apprehended and is in custody.

Baker also reported that a resident found a recording device hidden on Almayo and urged all neighbors to remain watchful.
