West Hills Hears Platt Avenue Green Street Plan

June 22, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils

The West Hills Neighborhood Council heard a proposal to transform the medians on Platt Avenue into green infrastructure at its May 7, 2026 board meeting.

Kaizer Rangwala presented the Platt Avenue Green Street Initiative, which calls for converting the existing paved medians into landscaped bioswales with tree canopy.

The presentation states that the existing multiway boulevard medians on Platt Avenue are currently liabilities rather than assets.

The proposal includes a pilot segment running between Calvert Street and Sylvan Street.

The plan calls for four steps starting with a technical drainage assessment, followed by community engagement, coordination with city agencies, and a pilot installation.

The plan also describes an optical narrowing effect where median trees create the perception of a narrower roadway, intended to slow traffic.

No vote was taken at the meeting.
