Sunland-Tujunga Residents Raise Alarm Over Tujunga Dump Grading
June 26, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils
A community member living near the Tujunga dump told the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council at its June 10 meeting that bulldozers are currently grading dirt piles at the site.
The minutes state that Karen von Gunten, a community member impacted by proximity to the dump, said the grading is disrupting what she described as toxic dirt and could spread contaminants if there is a wind event.
The city was supposed to have put clean dirt over the toxic dirt at the site, the minutes note, but the council said proof this occurred is likely not possible to obtain.
Past testing commissioned by the Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council showed toxic materials at the site, while County testing did not, the minutes state.
The council noted that the City and County have not been forthcoming with testing results.
No vote was taken, and the minutes state it is not clear what else the council can do at this time.
