Sunland-Tujunga Flags Oversized ADUs in Sherwood Forest

The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council raised concerns in June about a developer building three oversized accessory dwelling units on a single property in Sherwood Forest.

The minutes state that a developer built three units at 3,800 square feet each on one property and rented them out for around $55,000 per month.

Council president Lydia Grant said state law allows accessory dwelling units but contains wording that some developers interpret to allow buildings far larger than the law intended.

Grant said Sunland-Tujunga is a high fire zone and that excessive development raises additional concerns about fire safety and evacuation planning.

The minutes note that a program is in development to help predict evacuation times, which Grant described as helpful for the community.
