Sunland-Tujunga Backs Return of 50-Year July 4 Parade

The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council voted in June to commit $3,000 and $300 for a council float to support the local Fourth of July parade.

The parade has been going on in Sunland-Tujunga for 50 years, according to the minutes.

Earlier this year the city decided not to fund the parade, but later re-decided to pay some subsidies, the minutes state.

Council president Lydia Grant said public attention grew after a news article in the NY Post and another article from Australia that received 52K views.

The minutes record that Councilmember Rodriguez planned to donate $5,000 and work to get the Department of Transportation to waive its $5,000 fee.

The Rotary Club has been pivotal in getting the permits and leading the effort, the minutes note.

Extra donations, if any, can be put towards the parade next year, the minutes state.
