Sunland-Tujunga 4th of July Parade Will Go On

The Sunland-Tujunga 4th of July Parade will go forward after the city reversed a decision to cut funding for the event.
The parade has run in Sunland-Tujunga for 50 years, the minutes state.
Earlier this year, the minutes note, someone at the city decided the event would not be funded, starting with this year, the 250th anniversary of American independence.
After public attention grew, including a news article in the NY Post and coverage that reached Australia with 52,000 views, the city reversed course and agreed to pay some subsidies.
The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council committed $3,000 to parade events and $300 toward a council float.
The minutes state that Councilmember Rodriguez's representative said Rodriguez plans to donate $5,000 and to get the Department of Transportation to waive its $5,000 fee.
The Rotary Club has been leading the permitting effort, the minutes state.
Any extra donations can be put toward next year's parade, the council noted.
