Sunland-Tujunga Rescues Its Fourth of July Parade
June 24, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils
The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council has committed $3,000 to the neighborhood's Fourth of July parade and an additional $300 toward a council float, board President Lydia Grant said at the June 10, 2026 general board meeting.
The parade has been held in Sunland-Tujunga for 50 years.
Earlier this year, the City decided not to fund the event, which falls during the 250th anniversary of the United States.
After news of the cancellation spread, people began donating money, Grant said.
One news article reached Australia and drew about 52,000 views.
A New York Post article also covered the story.
Councilmember Rodriguez committed to donate $5,000 and to pursue a waiver of the Department of Transportation's $5,000 fee, the minutes state.
The City has since agreed to pay some subsidies for the parade.
With the City subsidies and public donations, the parade is planned to go forward.
Any extra donations will be used for the parade next year.
