Sunland-Tujunga Council Backs ADU Size Cap
September 15, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils
The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council voted 13 to 0 on September 9 to support an ICO limiting accessory dwelling units to 1,200 square feet.
The minutes state that a change in state law made the rules on ADU size ambiguous.
The minutes note that some units have since been built to 3,500 square feet instead of the 1,200 square feet formerly required.
The minutes state that the ICO will stop future units built above that size but will not affect units already approved.
The motion was made by Carol Hutchinson and seconded by Jon von Gunten.
