Sunland-Tujunga Council Sounds Alarm on Giant ADUs

June 26, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils

The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council raised concerns at its June 10 meeting about large accessory dwelling units being built in Sherwood Forest.

The minutes state that one developer has built three ADUs of 3,800 square feet each on a single property, renting them out for around $55,000 per month.

State law was written to allow ADU units in the range of 400 to 800 square feet, the minutes note, but some developers are building units far larger.

The minutes note that Sunland-Tujunga is a high fire zone and that excessive development raises safety concerns.

No vote was taken on the matter.
