Sunland-Tujunga Flags Giant ADUs in Sherwood Forest

June 24, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils

The Sunland-Tujunga Neighborhood Council has raised concerns about a developer who built three accessory dwelling units of 3,800 square feet each on a single property in Sherwood Forest, according to remarks by board President Lydia Grant at the June 10, 2026 general board meeting.

The units are rented out for around $55,000 per month, the minutes state.

State law allows accessory dwelling units, but some wording in the law has allowed developers to build much larger structures than intended, Grant said.

Grant said the development defeats the purpose of the original law.

Sunland-Tujunga is a high fire zone, and the council called for vigilance about excessive development in the area, the minutes state.

A program is in development to help predict evacuation times in the area, the minutes note.
