Encino Council Backs Bill on Home Insurance Cancellations
July 27, 2026 · Neighborhood Councils
The Encino Neighborhood Council voted at its July 22 meeting to support SB 1301, a state bill about residential property insurance.
The bill would require home insurers to give detailed, plain language reasons for a policy's cancellation.
It would also require insurers to give the homeowner time to mitigate the problems identified before a cancellation goes through.
The bill prohibits unreasonable basis for cancellation.
The council voted to submit a Community Impact Statement to the City Council encouraging City Council to formally support SB 1301.
The bill was written by author Senator Ben Allen.
The motion passed as part of the consent calendar with 16 yes votes.
