Encino Backs Homeowner Insurance Cancellation Bill

The Encino Neighborhood Council voted at its July 22 meeting to support SB 1301, a California state bill on residential property insurance.

The council also voted to submit a Community Impact Statement to the Los Angeles City Council encouraging support for the bill.

SB 1301 was authored by Senator Ben Allen.

The bill would require home insurers to give detailed, plain language reasons for a policy cancellation.

It would also require insurers to give the homeowner time to fix the problems identified before a policy is canceled.

The bill prohibits unreasonable bases for cancellation.
