LAPD Warns Encino About Burglary Crew Phone Surveillance

An LAPD officer warned Encino residents at the May 27 Neighborhood Council meeting that a Chilean burglary crew was recently arrested.

The minutes state that SLO Walia said crews were planting cell phones in shrubbery to film homes.

The minutes also report that local crews are interfering with breaker box power for homes and that residents should lock their breaker boxes.

Walia advised residents to look out for suspicious devices around their home and across the street.

Crime statistics from April showed 9 burglaries, 7 motor vehicle thefts, and 13 thefts from vehicles in Encino.

The minutes note that overall crime was down 1.7 percent compared to the end of 2025.
